Every system is built on an invisible foundation, supported by invisible scaffolding, which is our cultural understanding of mental health. If our system isn’t fir for purpose, what culture, what beliefs are shoring up this system?
In this final episode in the six-part series of Where There’s A Will, we will try and shine a light on some of the philosophical underpinnings of our system as it stands. Because there’s a battleground- and some very different worldviews- clamouring to shape what our mental health systems globally will look like in the future.
In this episode, we speak to Professor Peter Kinderman, of the University of Liverpool; Dr Pat Bracken, psychiatrist; and Dr Terry Lynch, GP and psychotherapist; about their vision for the future of our mental health models. We also speak to Nikki, who got help for her depression through the private sector, and paints a picture of a service which puts people at the centre.
